Northline

Identity · 2024

A restrained identity for a practice that builds with very few materials.

Northline is a nine-person architecture practice working mainly on schools and small public buildings. Their projects use concrete, timber and little else, and they wanted an identity that followed the same discipline.

Challenge

The practice presented its work through competition boards, technical sets and an outdated website, each with different typography. Clients often did not recognise documents from the same office.

Approach

We reduced the identity to a line-based wordmark, one grotesque typeface in two weights and a drawing frame used on every sheet, from A0 boards to email signatures.

Result

Boards, drawings and the new website now read as one body of work. The practice reports that competition juries comment on the clarity of its submissions.
