Restraint is not the same as minimalism. It is a decision about where attention should go, and it applies just as much to a loud identity as to a quiet one.
One idea per surface
Every page, poster or screen can carry one main idea well. When we try to say three things at once, readers usually remember none of them. Restraint starts by choosing which idea leads.
Fewer tools, used fully
Our identities rarely use more than one typeface family and two colours. That limit forces us to use scale, weight and spacing properly, instead of reaching for a new element whenever something feels flat.
Clients sometimes worry that a restrained system will look generic. In practice the opposite happens: when only a few decisions are visible, each of them becomes recognisable.
Where we allow more
Restraint in the system makes room for generosity in the content. Photography, writing and the work itself can then take the space they deserve.
